Strip Lamination

Lamination applied only where you want it — protective film in precise bands, with clean, glue-ready stock left in between.

What it is

What is strip lamination?

Strip lamination applies film in defined bands or zones instead of across the whole sheet. It solves a specific problem: parts of a product need the protection and finish of lamination, while other areas must stay uncoated — for gluing, writing, or a deliberate contrast between coated and raw stock.

It's a common choice on labels and packaging, giving you durability and a premium surface exactly where it matters, without compromising the zones that need to stay natural. The result is a piece that performs and looks the part at the same time.

Finish & benefit options

Options to choose from

Banded protection

Film placed precisely along required strips.

Glue-ready zones

Uncoated areas kept ready for converting.

Matte or gloss strips

Choose the surface for the coated band.

Why partial?

Why laminate only part of a sheet?

Full lamination seals the whole surface — perfect for a cover, but a problem when an area needs to be glued, over-printed, or kept as bare stock. Adhesives and inks don't bond well to a laminated film, so leaving glue tabs and functional zones uncoated keeps the product working as intended.

Strip lamination gives you both: a protected, premium band where it counts, and clean stock everywhere else. It pairs naturally with board lamination and thermal lamination when different parts of a job call for different finishing. Tell us how the piece is converted and we'll map the zones with you.

Strip lamination FAQ

Common questions about strip lamination

What is strip lamination?

Strip lamination applies protective film in defined bands or zones rather than across the whole sheet, so parts of a product are laminated while others stay uncoated for gluing, writing or contrast.

Why not just laminate the whole sheet?

Glue and inks don't bond well to laminated film. Leaving glue tabs and functional areas uncoated keeps the product easy to convert, over-print or write on, while the laminated band still adds protection and a premium look.

What products use strip lamination?

Labels, wraps, and packaging that mix coated and uncoated areas, plus specialty print with both functional and decorative needs.

Can the laminated strips be matte or gloss?

Yes — you can choose a matte or gloss surface for the coated band to match the look you want.
